In this lesson I will be teaching you how to create your menus.
- In the Blog Dashboard, select Appearance > Menus
- Select “create a new menu” at the top of the page
- Enter a name for your new menu in the Menu Name box
- Click the Create Menu button
Now it’s time to add your items to the menu that we just created.
- Now depending on what you want to add to the menu, open the tabs of either the pages, categories or create a custom link for you menu.
- Select the categories or pages that you want to add by clicking the check box next to each category that you want to include in the menu.
- Once you start adding post/content and creating categories you can start adding them to you menu.
- Click the “Add to Menu” button located at the bottom of this tab to add selected items to your menu.
- Rearrange the items as you want them on your site
To create the drop down feature for you menu
- Move the mouse pointer until it is directly over the object you want to manipulate.
- Hold down the left mouse button.
- With the left mouse button held down, move the mouse to where you want to drop the object. Notice how the object moves with your mouse pointer.
- Drop the object by letting up on the left mouse button.
- Now the menu will look indented.
Set The Menu Location
- The first one is the “Manage Locations” tab at the top of the screen.
- At the bottom of the menu you just created in the “Menu Settings” it will have a “Display location” so select the location of your menu
NOTE: Menu locations will vary by theme, so if you change themes, you may have to reactivate or move your menu to a new location.
Click “Save Changes”
Now you can refresh your live blog to see the menu that we just created. The top-level categories will be displayed, and then when you hover your mouse over the item, the drop down will become visible.
